At the 3rd Leg of Tenzor International Cup - J/70 Open Winter Series sailors continue their intense battle for regatta leadership.
On the second day of competition, the Race Committee conducted four races, fully completing the day's sailing program. With a total of six races now held over two days, one worst-result discard has been made in the overall standings.
Passions ran high on the water: teams fought for every start, on upwind, roundings and downwind courses, striving to break ahead and improve their positions. Success as the wind shifted between different crews throughout the day, but the main contenders for the podium have become clear.
"Russian Bogatyrs" helmed by Igor Rytov secured two confident victories and one third-place finish, with only one race ending in a disappointing eighth-place result for them. This high performance allowed the team to secure their first place in the overall standings.
Just two points behind are Ptichki Sailing Team led by Elvira Pinchuk. The team delivered a supremely stable performance without major mistakes, posting finishes of 2-2-3-6, which secured them second place on the leaderboard.
An intriguing battle unfolded for third place. Third and fourth positions, with an absolutely equal points, are shared by Trem Sailing Team of Svetlana Sorokina and Tenzor Team of Andrey Pushkin. Notably, Trem Sailing Team recorded two race wins, giving them a positional advantage.
There was a good wind, it shifted a lot. In the last two races, we got a clean start and managed to get into the first two runs, so we took the lead and controlled the fleet until the finish, it turned out without a fight at all. Everything is great on the team, even when we didn't come well, our actions were in the tight fight with really strong rivals, - commented Mikhail Ushkov, tactician of Trem Sailing Team.
A busy day of racing and situations, but quite interesting to race in such a strong fleet. The first race was very difficult because we started with the wind, finished without the wind and the leaderboard changed. We were leading in the beginning, but we came third on finish. Then the judges changed the location of the distance, because there was a strong wind approach. The next three races were held in a good wind up to 15 knots, but it shifted a lot. The distance was not very long, so there was a very tight fight. Everyone is racing at a good speed and tactics, so nothing is clear with the prize-winners. Three more races in the plan for final day, - added Daniil Odinstov, tactician of Tenzor Team.
Bars Sailing Team finished all four races of Day 2 within the top-6, but this was not enough for Maxim Batrakov's crew to climb higher than 5th place overall.
Dolce Vita skippered by Inna Balashova started strong, posting second and third-place finishes in the first two races. However, the next two starts did not go as planned, ending with finishes outside the top-10. The team currently holds 6th place among the strongest after two days.
A good improvement was shown by Gaswar team led by Alexander Romanov, which climbed three positions compared to the first day, overtaking several strong Turkish teams including IVEDI, Eker Efsane, and Orient Express.
The third and decisive racing day will be started on Sunday, December 18th, at 11:00 local time. Three races are scheduled, which will determine the final standings. ⛵
