GASWAR team is aiming to reach new heights in TIC Winter Series 25/26!

GASWAR team will participate in all stages of the Tenzor International Cup – J/70 Open Winter Series 2025/2026. The crew list will consist of Alexander Romanov, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Leonid Klepikov and Alexander Gaidaenko.

Last season, GASWAR finished the Series just one step away from the podium, taking 4th place. Helmsman Alexander Romanov shared his sporting plans and gave comments about team’s preparation and the main factors of performance in racing.

Alexander, it is a pleasure to see GASWAR team among the regular participants of the Tenzor International Cup Series. What are your goals for the new winter season, and what are your expectations?

Alexander Romanov: Our team is actively preparing for the winter season, getting in good shape and training a lot. Recently, 2025 World Championship in RS21 class ended in Italy, which we were intending to take part, but unfortunately we missed it this year. However, it was with great pleasure to follow the races and the participants from Russia. I would like to sincerely congratulate Tenzor Team helmed by Andrey Pushkin, who achieved a great result by getting into the top-10 of this competition. The regatta was held in the most difficult wind conditions, there were many damages, many doubts about the operation of the Vakaros devices for taking the start line. Nevertheless, Tenzor Team and other Russian teams - Hubex, WHY NOT, Ptichki ST, Sergey Kuznetsov's crew, as well as the Georgian Sailing Club team performed very well. Congratulations to everyone!

The minimum goal for us in the upcoming Tenzor International Cup season 25/26 is to maintain the position won last season, and the general goal is to grow and always achieve better results! We will start with Leg 1 together with Turkish J/70 Championship, then second step and BRICS and after all subsequent stages of the winter Series. I wish all participants good luck, success and winning finishes!

Tell us about the team. How is your teamwork?

Alexander Romanov: Since TIC finals in April 2025, we have started racing with the updated team staff , so we will keep it in this winter season. I see a good communication inside the team, we have repeatedly held training clinics this summer, where we worked with the boat settings and gained experience.

How do you evaluate your personal progress as a helmsman over the past season?

Alexander Romanov: All the professional sailors I was racing with say that there should be more and more racing experience. As, this is the key point, I try not to lose my qualifications, not to make long gaps between trainings and races, I alternate individual team’s practice with the competitive racing on regattas in a large fleet.

In your opinion, what gives a greater effectiveness, individual skills or excellent teamwork?

Alexander Romanov: Performance in racing is a multifactorial model, in which such aspects as good speed and boat settings, personal skill and sailing experience, team spirit and ability to close the position of your teammate in race, and some other things are very important. That’s why we put our attention and analyze everything in detail after training and racing, and we try to apply our findings at the next starts and constantly improve.
